Signs a cable won't hold the line open

• A basement floor drain or lowest shower takes on water when the washer empties
• The kitchen line slows again a few weeks after it was cleared
• Toilets on the lowest level burble when a sink upstairs drains
• The cable comes back wrapped in fine roots or gray, greasy sludge
• A sewer smell around the cleanout cap in the yard or by the foundation
