The City of Louisville supplies water and treats wastewater itself, and backflow test reports are filed through its contractor, Backflow Solutions, Inc. The Building Safety Division issues permits and performs plumbing inspections. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Louisville.

When you call
The number on this page connects you with an independent local plumber who does commercial work in Louisville. Tell them what kind of business it is, what's leaking, backing up or not heating, and whether a fixture or the whole building is affected. Restaurants and retailers on Main Street often need work done before opening or after closing, so raise scheduling early.
The plumber will also tell you if a permit applies. Louisville's Building Safety Division, on the first floor of City Hall at 749 Main Street, reviews and issues permits and performs plumbing inspections. Reach it at 303-335-4584 or through the city's online portal.
Cost factors
- How large the building is and how many fixtures are part of the job
- Finding a hidden leak or a blockage with a camera
- Repairing a backflow assembly so it can pass and be filed
- Older buildings downtown where access is tight
- Permits, inspections and off-hours work
Louisville water and sewer
Louisville owns and runs two water treatment plants. Water comes from South Boulder Creek, stored in Marshall Lake, Harper Lake or Louisville Reservoir, plus Colorado River basin supply, and is disinfected with chlorine rather than chloramine. The city's 2026 report lists no health-based violations. Louisville keeps an inventory of service lines to confirm no customers are on lead and asks owners whose line material is unknown to report it.
Wastewater is treated at the city's own plant on the east side of town, built in 2017 with UV disinfection, and some treated water is reused to irrigate parks and a golf course. For a sewer backup, call the Public Works Operations Division at 303-335-4750 on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or its on-call line at 303-489-2301 after that. A backup that affects only your building usually means the blockage is on the private side, which is a plumber's call.
Backflow testing runs through Backflow Solutions, Inc. Testers submit reports through BSI, and property owners can reach BSI at 888-966-6050 with questions about a notice. Gas comes from Xcel Energy; for a gas smell, leave the building, then call Xcel at 1-800-895-2999 and 911.
Checklist before the visit
- Locate the main shutoff and valves for the affected area
- Have any BSI notice or past test report ready
- Clear access to the water heater, cleanouts and backflow device
- Check the lease to see who approves repairs
